Dear
friends and family,
Greetings
in the name of Jesus. The school year is now in full swing for us. January
17th began a new
school year, and the past four weeks have flown by. It's hard to believe
that this is our second year here
together. We have grown accustomed to life here in Willowvale, and it
doesn't feel as though we are away
from home anymore.
Thank
you for your prayers, as the students and staff arrived back to school
safely. However, one of
Tyler's students named Beatriz, is still in Cuba. She is the daughter
of the local doctor here, and they are
from Cuba. When they went home for Christmas, they discovered her passport
had expired, and so she is
still in Cuba awaiting a new passport. She will arrive back here by
the end of this month, which will put her
a month and a half behind in school. Please be praying for Beatriz's
safe arrival and that she will catch up
quickly. Tyler's class has been wonderful and a blessing for him this
year. They love having him as their
teacher again, and every day they are growing spiritually as well as
academically. Tyler has implemented a
new reading program in his class. Last year, Tyler had to fight with
his class to get them to pick up a book
and read. However, with this new literature appreciation program, his
students are discovering a new world
in literature. Now, he can hardly stop them from reading.
I
am loving my new schedule. This year, instead of having my own class,
I have the privilege of moving from
class to class every hour. It is so much fun to be able to spend time
with the little kids, as well as the upper
grades. My favorite class is the Kindergarten class because the kids
are so full of energy and enthusiasm.
This term, they are going to perform for the Parent Program at the end
of March, and I get to teach them
some songs and dances. They are so cute. They are still learning English,
so they get some of the words
mixed up, but whenever we sing the word 'Jesus', they enunciate perfectly.
So it sounds like unnmana na
na na JESUS
na mamama nananna. The other day, one of the girls
named Nobantu was examining my arms.
The kids love to touch my skin and long hair because it is so different
from theirs. While she was doing her
examination, she discovered all of my freckles. She began to touch each
one of my freckles and marvel at
them. After she had thoroughly examined all of my freckles, she looked
up in amazement with her big brown
eyes and exclaimed, "Miss Lizzy, you're South African too!"
I was a little confused at her remark so I asked
her what she meant. She pointed at my brown freckles, and said, "Look,
here you're South African, just like
me." It's amazing what little minds can think of. It was a cute
and special bonding experience for us.
This year Tyler has been leading the chapel worship times every morning.
Last year, the upper grade kids
were not wanting to get involved, because they had been singing the
same Sunday School songs for years
and they were tired of them. At the end of last year, Tyler had worship
times with just his class, teaching
them new songs. It became such an instrument of growth, as the kids
really began to participate in worship.
Tyler has now brought that same enthusiasm to the whole school, and
the kids are beginning to worship God
in ways they never have before. Every day, the kids are excited to come
to chapel and excited to worship
God. It has become a highlight of their day.
Please remember us in your prayers. We pray that God would bless you.
