"After we arrived, we began setting up our classrooms and creating lesson plans for the year in preparation for school
starting Jan. 19th. Lizzy is teaching English and Science in Grade 3, Music in Preschool, Grade R (K) and Grade 1, and Social Studies and South African history in Grade 5. So she is very busy running around from class to class!
I am teaching Grade 5 and church history in Grade 6.
The first week we spent adjusting to the culture and climate. The biggest adjustment has been to the 30-37 degree
weather and to the time change. I still wake up every morning at 2:00 am regardless of when I go to bed!"

January 7, 2004 excerpts from an email to Ellis from Tyler:
"Greetings from South Africa. We have arrived and are in great shape. . . We were overwhelmed with the hospitality and love we received from the Rosebank Church people. . . I really like Johannesburg, it is an incredible city, where two vastly different worlds collide. As we flew over Jo-burg we flew over a wealthy part of town, swimming pools in every backyard, and then right next to it a shanty town. It is amazing, yet the most incredible part is to see all of these people making an effort to co-exist and co-operate. . . From there we travelled to East London and then right on to Willowvale where we have arrived safe and sound in our new home. We are settling in great and adjusting to our new surroundings. Elizabeth is right at home here and I've seen her come alive as we arrived her, showing me all the places where she has been.
Be sure to say thank you to all the WRBC people for their prayers and support!
We'll send photos next time we're in East London as our computer here does not allow us to send them.
Again, thank you so much for all your support, prayers, and encouragements."
